Image Lubezki, Alejandro He studied Hispanic language and literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He took screenwriting workshops given by Syd Field, Linda Seger and the Screenwriters Lab in Guadalajara and Oaxaca. He participated in the 1st Berlinale Talents, Germany; the 10th Film Project Analysis Workshop in Colón, Argentina; and the Buenos Aires Lab at the 6th Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI), Argentina. He has been a jury member at several film festivals and competitions, including the 7th National Competition for Short Film Projects (2007) and the 6th Competition for Short Film Post Production grants (2012), both launched by the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), in addition to participating in the EFICINE (2013) and FOPROCINE (2014) evaluation committees. He has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) since its foundation in 2003. As a writer, he has participated in documentaries, advertising campaigns and television series and has written the screenplays for three features and three short films for several directors. He has written and directed 10 short films and one feature-length documentary, and has also directed the second part of the television series Bienes Raíces (2010), Once TV Mexico. He has shown his work out of competition at five editions of FICM. At the 1st FICM, he presented his short fiction film, De Mesmer, con amor o Té para dos (2002), co-directed with Salvador Aguirre, which won the Best Short Film Award at the 41st Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, France, among other awards. At the 4th and 6th FICM, he presented his short fiction film Nadie regresa por tercera vez (2003), which received a Jury Special Mention at the 31st International Film Festival of Huesca, Spain, and was shown at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2005. His short fiction film Lección relámpago (2007) participated in the 5th FICM and won the Best Mexican Short Film award at the 4th Monterrey International Film Festival (FICMonterrey, in Spanish). At the 10th FICM, he presented his first feature-length documentary El ingeniero (2012), which received the Best Documentary Film Award at the 1st Mexican Film Festival of the Americas (MFFA), Chicago, and the Best Editing and Best Production Value awards at the 15th Crystal Screen Festival, Mexico City. The documentary was shown during the activities of Mexico Week, organized by the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, in 2013.
