Ávila Dueñas, Iván

He studied the science and techniques of communication at the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac (UNIVA), Guadalajara, and a course on screenwriting at the Center for Film Research and Teaching at the University of Guadalajara (U. of G.). He is the author of the book El cine mexicano de Luis Buñuel. Estudio de los argumentos y personajes (1994). He received a Film, Video and Multimedia Grant from the Rockefeller and MacArthur Foundations in 1997. He is currently a member of the National System of Art Creators of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), Mexico. His work has participated in more than 20 film showings and festivals around the world. His first feature Adán y Eva (todavía) (2004) won a Jury Special Award at the 8th Method Fest Independent Film Festival, California, and was nominated for seven Ariel awards at the 52nd Ariel Awards Ceremony, Mexico, and won the Best Costume award. He received an award at the 1st Cancún Riviera Maya International Film Festival, Mexico; the Young European Jury award at the 16thBiarritz Festival of Latin American Cinema and Cultures, France; and a Special Mention of the Jury at the 3rd Tremblant Film Festival, Canada, for his second feature film La sangre iluminada (2007). His feature-length documentary Zacateco (Labor Vincit Omnia) (2010) premiered at the 8th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). He participated in the 4th UNAM International Film Festival (FICUNAM), Mexico, among other festivals, with his feature-length documentary La mañana no comienza aquí (2014).
