Image Tovar Velarde, Sergio He studied communication at the Iberoamerican University (UIA, in Spanish) in Mexico City. He received the Young Creators Grant of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) in 2009. His work was presented at more than 50 film showings and festivals around the world, including two editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). He won the Silver Goddess for Best Short Film award at the 35th Silver Goddess Awards Ceremony, Mexico, and the Silver REMI for Best Short Film at the 39th WorldFest-Houston International Film & Video Festival, Texas, among other awards, for his short fiction film La voz de las cigarras (2005). He won the Audience Award at the 3rd Kinoki International College Film Festival, Mexico City for his short filmEl joven Telarañas (2006). At the 5th FICM, he participated with his short films El gusano (2006) and Edén (2007). Edén received the Best Mexican Short Film award at the 20th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF), the 3rd Short Shorts Film Festival México (SSFFM) and the 1st Cancún Riviera Maya International Film Festival. He participated at the 9th FICM with his short fiction film Jet Lag (2011) and won the Audience Award at the 26th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) for his feature film Los inadaptados (segmento “chat”) (2011). He participated in the Morelia LAB Production Workshop of the 9th FICM with his feature-length fiction project Cuatro lunas (2014), which won the Guadalajara Construye 7/Films in Progress award at the 28th FICG. His short fiction film The Stepmother (2016) is part of the Official Selection of the 14th FICM.
