Villanueva, Eduardo

Self-taught artist and filmmaker, he studied music at the University of Guadalajara (U. de G.) and Architecture at the Jesuit University of Guadalajara (ITESO, in Spanish), in Jalisco, Mexico. His first film Viaje a Tulúm (2011) premiered at the 2nd UNAM International Film Festival (FICUNAM), Mexico City and was shown at the 40th Cervantine International Festival, Guanajuato; the 4th Cerbère’s Film Encounters in France; the Museum of the City in Querétaro and the Museum of Art in Zapopan, Mexico, among other festivals and museums. His film Penumbra (2013) was exhibited at more than 30 festivals around the world, including the 11th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM); the 54th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) in Greece; the 68th Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) in Scotland; the 51st Gijón International Film Festival (FICXixón) in Spain; the 34th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in South Africa; the 18th International Film Festival of kerala (IFFK), India; the 9th Ambulante Documentary Film Festival, Mexico; the 3rd Madeira Film Festival (MFF), Portugal; the 12th Brighton International Film Festival (BIFF), England; the 35th Havana Film Festival, Cuba; the 25th New Orleans Film Festival, Luisiana; the 3rd FICUNAM, Mexico City; the 28th Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI in Spanish), Argentina; and in a series at the Reina Sofía National Museum and Arts Center in Madrid. He received for the post-production of this work the Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) at the 41th International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Lions Film Award at the 42th edition of the same festival. Penumbra won the FIPRESCI award at the 28th Mar del Plata International Film Festival and the award for Best Director at the 1st International Film and New Adiovisual Formats Festival, MENDOZA PROYECTA, in Argentina.
