FICM announces the program for its 18th edition

El FICM da a conocer la programación de su 18ª edición

 

El Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) reveló la programación de su 18ª edición, la cual se llevará a cabo del 28 de octubre al 1 de noviembre de 2020.

Con el fin de garantizar la seguridad de los asistentes al festival y el fiel cumplimiento de los protocolos sanitarios, este 18º FICM se desarrollará en una versión híbrida de cinco días, con funciones presenciales en Cinépolis Morelia Centro y Cinépolis Las Américas, en Morelia, Michoacán, y funciones virtuales gratuitas a través de Cinépolis Klic, Canal 22 y FilminLatino.

Con la intención de honrar su vida y obra, esta 18ª edición la dedicaremos a nuestro amigo querido José María Riba, crítico, programador, maestro y ejemplo a seguir, quien lamentablemente nos dejó este año. José María Riba fue gran aliado del cine mexicano, amigo entrañable, mentor y colaborador principal del FICM, como creador, fundador y coordinador de Impulso Morelia.

SELECCIÓN OFICIAL

Parte esencial del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia son las secciones en competencia: Sección Michoacana, Cortometraje Mexicano, Documental Mexicano y Largometraje Mexicano. Este año la participación será de 11 trabajos en la Sección Michoacana, 60 títulos en la Sección de Cortometraje Mexicano, 9 títulos en la Sección de Documental Mexicano y 9 títulos en la Sección de Largometraje Mexicano. Habrá más de 90 cineastas mexicanos presentando su trabajo.

Por séptimo año consecutivo, el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia presentará la Selección de Cortometraje Mexicano en Línea, compuesta por 40 de los cortometrajes que forman parte de la Selección Oficial de la 18ª edición del FICM.

Es importante recordar que, en el caso de los cortometrajes de ficción, documental y animación, así como en el de largometraje documental, el ganador será considerado como elegible para la nominación al Oscar®.

Este año, la Sección de Largometraje Mexicano está conformada por: Amalgama, de Carlos Cuarón; ¡Ánimo juventud!, de Carlos Armella; Blanco de verano, de Rodrigo Ruiz Patterson; La diosa del asfalto, de Julián Hernández; Fauna, de Nicolás Pereda; Fuego adentro, de Jesús Mario Lozano; Ricochet, de Rodrigo Fiallega; Sin señas particulares, de Fernanda Valadez; y Todo lo invisible, de Mariana Chenillo.

JURADO

El jurado del 18º Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia estará conformado por: Marisa Paredes, aclamada actriz española; Vanja Kaludjercic, directora del Festival Internacional de Cine de Rotterdam (IFFR); Rithy Panh, aclamado director camboyano; Lili Hinstin, exdirectora del Festival de Locarno; Nick James, reconocido crítico de cine; Nicolas Philibert, aclamado realizador francés;  John Bailey, reconocido cinematógrafo y expresidente de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos; Farah Clémentine Dramani-Issifou, integrante del comité de selección de la Semana de la Crítica de Cannes; Patricia Riggen, reconocida realizadora mexicana; Sébastien Duclocher, integrante del comité de selección del Festival de Clermont-Ferrand; Hugo Villa Smythe,  Director General de Actividades Cinematográficas de la UNAM; Samuel Kishi, reconocido realizador mexicano; y Benoît Martin, agregado audiovisual de la Embajada de Francia en México.

ESTRENOS Y FUNCIONES ESPECIALES

Este año, se proyectará una muestra integrada con una selección de estrenos de lo mejor de la cinematografía internacional, que incluyen: Ammonite, de Francis Lee; Siberia, de Abel Ferrara; The Trouble with Nature, de Illum Jacobi; Te llevo conmigo, de Heidi Ewing; Soy Greta, de Nathan Grossman; The Truffle Hunters, de Michael Dweck y Gregory Kershaw; y Nomadland, de Chloé Zhao, ganadora del León de Oro en el pasado Festival de Venecia.

Con el apoyo del Goethe-Institut Mexiko, presentaremos el estreno latinoamericano de Berlin Alexanderplatz, de Burhan Qurbani, cinta estrenada en el pasado Festival de Berlín.

También contaremos con los estrenos de las películas: Blast Beat, de Esteban Arango; The Climb, de Michael Angelo Covino; Dream Horse, de Euros Lyn; Long Time No See, de Pierre Filmon; Nine Days, de Edson Oda; Rifkin’s Festival, de Woody Allen; Saint Maud, de Rose Glass; Sound of Metal, de Darius Marder; y Yellow Rose, de Diane Paragas.

El 18º FICM tendrá funciones especiales de: El muchacho alegre (1948) y Los dineros del diablo (1953), de Alejandro Galindo; Rebelde sin causa (1955), de Nicholas Ray; y Lucinda Urrusti: pintora (2020), de Juan Francisco Urrusti.

FORO DE LOS PUEBLOS INDÍGENAS

Asimismo, llevaremos a cabo el Foro de los Pueblos Indígenas, con la participación de las y los cineastas Norma Delia Robles Carrillo, Litay Ortega, Nicolás Rojas Sánchez, Uriel Nute Kujin, Adolfo Fierro, Juan González, Saúl Kak, Andrea Santiago, Itandehui Jansen, Elke Franke y Laura Plancarte.

SEMANA DE LA CRÍTICA Y FESTIVAL DE CANNES

Con el apoyo de la Embajada de Francia, presentaremos una selección de películas que fueron seleccionadas por la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes en 2020, que incluye: After Love, de Aleem Khan; Gold for Dogs, de Anna Cazenave Cambet; y Beasts, de Naël Marandin. Asimismo, contaremos con Spring Blossom, de Suzanne Lindon; y Love Affair(s), de Emmanuel Mouret, ambas cintas que el Festival de Cannes había seleccionado como parte de su 73ª edición.

PROGRAMA DEDICADO A GILBERTO MÁRTÍNEZ SOLARES

Con el invaluable apoyo de Fundación Televisa y la Cineteca Nacional, contaremos con un programa dedicado al prolífico realizador mexicano Gilberto Martínez Solares. El programa presentará Santo y Blue Demon contra los monstruos (1970) y una copia restaurada de Calabacitas tiernas (1949). Además, en el marco del 18º FICM, y en colaboración con Fundación Televisa, se presentará una exposición fotográfica dedicada a Gilberto Martínez Solares en el Andador Hidalgo de la Plaza Benito Juárez, de Morelia.

IMPULSO MORELIA 6

También llevaremos a cabo la sexta edición de Impulso Morelia, un espacio que desde 2015 propone un programa de largometrajes mexicanos en distintas fases de edición y postproducción. Este año, el panel de expertos estará compuesto por el reconocido diseñador de producción Eugenio Caballero; Vicente Canales, director de la agencia de ventas internacionales Film Factory; el destacado realizador mexicano Jorge Fons y Bertha Navarro, una de las más prominentes productoras cinematográficas de nuestro país.

FUNCIONES DE INAUGURACIÓN Y CLAUSURA

En el marco del 20º aniversario de su estreno, la versión restaurada de la película Amores perros, de Alejandro González Iñárritu, se proyectará en la Ceremonia de Inauguración de nuestra 18ª edición, evento que se llevará a cabo la noche del 28 de octubre en Cinépolis Morelia Centro con la presencia del aclamado realizador mexicano. Es un gran honor para el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia ser una de las plataformas de exhibición de la versión restaurada de este filme que transformó la industria cinematográfica nacional y es considerado un hito en la historia del cine mexicano.

La película El baile de los 41, del realizador mexicano David Pablos, será la función de clausura del 18º FICM, evento que se llevará a cabo el 1 de noviembre en Cinépolis Morelia Centro.

INVITADOS ESPECIALES

Tendremos el privilegio de contar con la presencia de Michel Franco, que presentará su nueva película premiada en el Festival de Venecia, Nuevo orden. Asimismo, contaremos con la participación virtual de Matt Dillon, que presentará su documental El gran Fellove, así como el estreno virtual de Hijo de Monarcas, de Alexis Gambis, cinta rodada en gran parte en el estado de Michoacán.

RESULTADOS DEL CONCURSO ESPECIAL FICM PRESENTA DE GUION DE CORTOMETRAJE 2020

Con el fin de estimular las actividades culturales y cinematográficas de México, el 30 de marzo convocamos al Concurso especial FICM Presenta de guion de cortometraje 2020. El jurado, conformado por Natalia Beristáin, Ana Cruz, Angélica Ramírez y Ernesto Contreras, resolvió lo siguiente: el trabajo ganador es Tarde de abril, escrito por Frida Paola Meza Coriche. Asímismo otorgaron una Mención especial al trabajo Habitar tu ausencia, escrito por Berenice Viveros Ramírez. Se otorgará un diploma y un premio en efectivo de $30,000 (treinta mil pesos mexicanos) a la autora del guion ganador, así como una invitación individual para asistir a la 18ª edición del FICM. La Mención Especial consiste en un diploma. ¡Muchas felicidades!

FICM announces the program for its 18th edition

 

The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) revealed the programming for its 18th edition, which will take place from October 28 to November 1, 2020.

In order to guarantee the safety of festival-goers and the faithful compliance with all necessary health protocols, this 18th FICM will be a five-day hybrid version of the festival. With in-person screenings at Cinépolis Morelia Centro and Cinépolis Las Américas, in Morelia, Michoacán , and free virtual shows through Cinépolis Klic, Canal 22 and FilminLatino.

With the intention of honoring his life and work, we will dedicate this 18th edition to our dear friend José María Riba, critic, programmer, teacher and role model, who unfortunately left us this year. José María Riba was a great ally of Mexican cinema, a close friend, mentor and principal collaborator of FICM, where he created, founded and coordinated Impulso Morelia.

OFFICIAL SELECTION

An essential part of the Morelia International Film Festival is the competing sections: Michoacan Section, Mexican Short Film, Mexican Documentary and Mexican Feature Film. This year participation will include 11 works in the Michoacan Section, 60 titles in the Mexican Short Film Section, 9 titles in the Mexican Documentary Section and 9 titles in the Mexican Feature Film Section. There will be more than 90 Mexican filmmakers presenting their work.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Morelia International Film Festival will present the Online Mexican Short Film Selection, made up of 40 of the short films that are part of the Official Selection of the 18th edition of FICM.

It is important to remember that, in the case of fiction, documentary and animation short films, as well as documentary feature films, the winner will be considered eligible for an Oscar® nomination.

PREMIERES AND SPECIAL SCREENINGS

This year, an integrated sample will be screened with a selection of premieres of the best of international cinematography, including: Ammonite by Francis Lee; Siberia by Abel Ferrara; The Trouble with Nature by Illum Jacobi; Te llevo conmigo by Heidi Ewing; Soy Greta by Nathan Grossman; The Truffle Hunters by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw; and Nomadland by Chloé Zhao, winner of the Golden Lion at the last Venice Film Festival.

With the support of the Goethe-Institut Mexiko, we will present the Latin American premiere of Berlin Alexanderplatz by Burhan Qurbani, a film premiered at the last Berlin Film Festival.

CRITIC'S WEEK AND CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

With the support of the French Embassy, we will present a selection of films that were chosen for Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020, including: After Love by Aleem Khan, Gold for Dogs by Anna Cazenave Cambet and Beasts by Naël Marandin. We will also have Spring Blossom by Suzanne Lindon and Love Affair(s) by Emmanuel Mouret, both of which were selected as part of the 73rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

PROGRAM DEDICATED TO GILBERTO MÁRTÍNEZ SOLARES

With the invaluable support of Fundación Televisa and the Cineteca Nacional, we will have a program dedicated to the prolific Mexican filmmaker Gilberto Martínez Solares. It will feature Santo y Blue Demon contra los monstrous (1970) and a restored copy of Calabacitas tiernas (1949). Additionally, the 18th FICM will collaborate with Fundación Televisa to present a photographic exhibition dedicated to Gilberto Martínez Solares, which will be held at the Andador Hidalgo in the Plaza Benito Juárez, in Morelia.

IMPULSO MORELIA 6

We will also carry out the sixth edition of Impulso Morelia, a space for Mexican feature films in different stages of editing and post-production created in 2015. This year, the panel of experts will be made up of the renowned production designer Eugenio Caballero; Vicente Canales, director of the international sales agency Film Factory; the prominent Mexican director Jorge Fons and Bertha Navarro, one of the most important film producers in our country.

INAUGURATION AND CLOSING SCREENINGS

As part of the 20th anniversary of its premiere, the restored version of the movie Amores perros by Alejandro González Iñárritu, will be screened at the Opening Ceremony of our 18th edition, an event that will take place on the night of October 28 at Cinépolis Morelia Centro with the presence of the acclaimed Mexican director. It is a great honor for the Morelia International Film Festival to be one of the platforms for the restored version of a film that transformed the national movie industry and is considered an important milestone in the history of Mexican cinema.

The film El baile de los 41, by Mexican director David Pablos, will be the closing the 18th FICM during an event that will take place on November 1 at Cinépolis Morelia Centro.

SPECIAL GUESTS

We will have the privilege of having the presence of Michel Franco, who will present his Venice Film Festival award-winning film, Nuevo Orden. We will also have the virtual participation of Matt Dillon, who will present his documentary El gran Fellove, as well as the virtual premiere of Son of Monarcas by Alexis Gambis, a film shot largely in the state of Michoacán.

RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL SHORT SCREENPLAY CONTEST FICM PRESENTA 2020

In order to stimulate cultural and cinematographic activities in Mexico, we created the short screenplay contest FICM Presenta 2020 at the end of March. The jury made up of Natalia Beristáin, Ana Cruz, Angélica Ramírez and Ernesto Contreras, resolved the following: the winning work is Tarde de abril, written by Frida Paola Meza Coriche. They also awarded a Special Mention to the work Habitar tu ausencia, written by Berenice Viveros Ramírez. A diploma and a cash prize of $ 30,000 (thirty thousand Mexican pesos) will be awarded to the author of the winning script, as well as an individual invitation to attend the 18th edition of FICM. The Special Mention consists of a diploma. Congratulations!
