The 18th FICM and Sundance Co//ab will present a webinar by Carlos Cuarón

The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) in collaboration with the Sundance Institute's Sundance Co//ab platform will present a live webinar by the Mexican screenwriter and director Carlos Cuarón, who will discuss the creation of characters during the construction of a film script.

In "The Life of Characters in Film: From Words to Images", Carlos Cuarón will also reflect on the difficulties and challenges of the transition from writing to making cinematographic images.

Sundance Co//ab is a virtual community platform where creators from around the world can share their work and learn through workshops, online events, master classes and a video library.

For three years now, FICM and the International Program at Sundance Institute have been working hand in hand in the realization of the Morelia / Sundance Stories Lab, which seeks to support the improvement of feature film scripts, through analysis and creative advice by renowned international tutors. This webinar through Sundance Co//ab maintains the mission to keep collaborations between the Sundance Institute and the Morelia International Film Festival alive.

The webinar "The Life of Characters in Film: From Words to Images", by Carlos Cuarón, will be held on Wednesday, October 28 at 3:00 p.m. Access will be free after registering on the collab.sundance.org platform.

About Carlos Cuarón

Carlos Cuarón was born in Mexico City on October 2, 1966, where he studied English Literature at UNAM. He has participated in the Sundance Institute Script Workshops in Mexico, the United States and India, acting as a workshop leader as well as an advisor. He has written, directed and produced for film, theater and television. He wrote and directed Rudo y Cursi, which at the time became the third highest-grossing Mexican film in history and earned eight Ariel nominations. He produced, wrote and directed the film Besos de azúcar, which won him the best director award at the filmmakers' week in the Fantasporto Festival in Portugal, in 2014. He has written and directed the short films Sístole diastoleMamacita, Noche de bodas(oficial selection at Cannes' Semaine de la Critique in 2001), Me la debes, Juego de niños, Amor al Tri, No me digan Hugo, Ofelia, The Second Bakery Attack, Una piedra del camino and El sándwich de Mariana. He wrote the screenplays for the films Sólo con tu pareja, Y tu mamá también, El misterio del Trinidad and collaborated on ¿Quién diablos es Juliette? He also produced Desierto and was an Associate Producer on the films Crónicas and The Assassination of Richard Nixon. Co-creator, co-producer and co-writer of the animated series Poncho Balón va a la final and Poncho Balón va a Sudáfrica. In 1992, he won the Ariel for best screenplay with Sólo con tu pareja. He was nominated in 2004 for El misterio del Trinidad and in 2009 for best debut for Rudo y Cursi. He also won the Silver Lion for best screenplay at the Venice Film Festival in 2001 for his work in Y tú mama también, with which he earned Oscar and BAFTA nominations in 2003 in the same category.
