In a gala and surrounded the public of Morelia, the renowned actor Casey Affleck presented, in our fourteenth edition, his latest work, Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Kenneth Lonergan.
An Academy Award favorite, the film tells the story of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), a plumber from Boston who returns to his hometown to take care of the son of his recently deceased brother.
Alejandro Ramirez Magana, President of FICM and Daniela Michel, General Firector of the festival, accompanied Affleck on his journey through the red carpet to then address the audience: “Those who are regulars may recall that in the second edition, the extraordinary director Gus Van Sant presented Gerry, starring Casey, so he has been present virtually and is received as a great friend. We are delighted you’re here and it is a privilege for us to present Manchester by the Sea“.
In a little chat with Daniela Michel, the actor spoke about his work with Lonergan: “It was a real pleasure working with Kenneth. It took him three years to finish the script… he is truly talented, he’s a director I really admire, I consider his work to be truly exceptional and I am happy that this film is being shown, you are very good and selective”.
Acknowledgement of his work
In addition, Daniela Michel congratulated him the acknowledgement he received last September at the Telluride Film Festival: “I appreciate the comments on my work, the truth is I am very grateful to the people with whom I work because they are people I admire, whom I consider very valuable. I think it’s only occasionally that we have the opportunity to make gems like this”.
Finally, as is tradition at FICM, Alejandro Ramirez revealed a commemorative armchair bearing the name of the actor: “It is an honor, thank you very much, now I can sit here and watch how they enjoy the movie”.
