Moby gives free music to independent filmmakers

Moby’s solo career was catapulted into the international scene in 1991 with the success of Go (a track which samples a theme from the Twin Peaks series by David Lynch), and since then his music has travelled the world. Moby has used his fame for the benefit of charities such as The Humane Society (for the protection of animals) and MoveOn.org (to increase political participation in American citizens); now the American composer and DJ continues his social labor through Mobygratis.

Mobygratis is a resource for film students and independent filmmakers where they can download Moby’s music without cost for their audiovisual projects. The only condition required to use any of the 150 available tracks is to assure the project has no commercial purpose and to fill in an online application form. The Mobygratis catalog consists of the musician’s most recent work as well as B-sides from his first albums, including the popular Play.

Once the project is finished, Moby encourages his users to share it on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and Google+, so on these social networks you can find examples of filmmakers who used Mobygratis. Here is a video of Moby explaining how the site works:
