The story takes place in a small town in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca. Lupe is a beautiful, cheerful young woman who stands out from the rest of the inhabitants and awakens men’s admiration. One night she meets Juancho, a sailor, and falls in love with him. Juancho must leave for Veracruz, but promises to return to marry her. As the months go by and Juancho doesn’t return, Lupe agrees to marry another man, even though she doesn’t want to.

When they encounter a mysterious monk, who offers them shelter at the old monastery of the Order of Silence, Eduardo is scared and refuses to go inside the building, but Cristina and Alfonso—who are having an affair—convince him to spend the night there. A series of abnormal events will make the lovers regret their decision.
