Daniela Michel – jury member at the Fribourg International Film Festival

We are pleased to announce that Daniela Michel, general director of FICM, has been invited to be a member of the international jury for the feature film section of the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF). The festival is held at the old train station in the Swiss city of Fribourg and is known worldwide for the quality of its program and the close interaction between its invited guests and the general public.

Accompanying Daniela Michel will be U.S. director and photographer Jerry Schatzberg and the directors Alejandro Fadel of Argentina, Erika Matti of the Philippines, and Sébastien Pilote of Canada. These five professionals of the film industry will present the Regard d’Or, FIFF’s highest award.

Twelve productions from Asia, Latin America, Africa and East Europe will compete in the international feature competition 2014, considered to be the main section of the festival. They were chosen based on their quality, regardless of the theme, genre or trajectory of the director. The selected list includes:

  1. Til Madness Do Us Part by Wang Bing – documentary, France, Japan and Hong Kong
  2. Au revoir l’ete / Hotori no Sakuko by Koji Fukada –fiction, Japan
  3. Bad Hair by Mariana Rondón – fiction, Venezuela
  4. Fish and Cat / Mahi va Gorbeh by Shahram Mokri – fiction, Iran
  5. Han Gong-Ju by Lee Sujin – fiction, South Korea
  6. Constructors / Stroiteli by Adilkhan Yerzhanov – fiction, Kazakhstan
  7. Quick Change by Eduardo W. Roy Jr. – fiction, Philippines
  8. Manuscripts Don’t Burn / Dast-Neveshtehaa Nemisoosand by Mohammad Rasoulof – fiction, Iran
  9. Lock Charmer / El Cerrajero by Natalia Smirnoff – fiction, Argentina
  10. To Kill a Man / Matar a un Hombre by Alejandro Fernandez Almendras – fiction, Chile
  11. The Square / Al Midan by Jehane Noujaim – documentary, United States and Egypt
  12. Siddharth by Richie Mehta – fiction, India and Canada
