Video Homage to Emmanuel Lubezki

The images that Mexican DoP Emmanuel Lubezki has created, together with directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Terrence Malick, the Coen brothers and most recently Alejandro González Iñárritu, are unforgettable. He has taken the continuous single shot to its furthest reaches (Children of Men, 2006; Birdman, 2014), handles natural light with a spectacular skill (A Little Princess, 1995; The Tree of Life, 2011), and can even recreate the sensation of being launched into outer space (Gravity, 2013).

Vimeo user Borealisk has put together fragments of Lubezki’s work in an homage to the photographer, solidifying his position as one of the best cinematographers in the world. This compilation was made in 2013 and doesn’t include his most recent films, but it is proof of the amazing things that Lubezki is able to do with a camera:

If you are interested in the work of other cinematographers, Borealisk’s Vimeo account also features compilations of the work of Robert Yeoman (the films of Wes Anderson; Bridesmaids, 2011), Lance Acord (Where the Wild Things Are, 2009; Lost in Translation, 2003; Adaptation, 2002; Being John Malkovich, 1999) and Anthony Dod Mantle (127 Hours, 2010; Slumdog Millionaire, 2008; Dogville, 2003; Festen, 1998), among others.
