Juliette Binoche Receives Medal of the UNAM Film Archive

The UNAM Film Archive gave the iconic French actress Juliette Binoche the commemorative medal of that institution, which is made from silver nitrate recovered from film that has been destroyed. This award is given to FICM’s Guest of Honor. In previous years, figures of the stature of Abbas Kiarostami, Volker Schlöndorff, Terry Gilliam and Arthur Penn, among others, have received the medal.

The Medal of the UNAM Film Archive was presented after the red carpet where the actress appeared before the presentation of her latest film, Clouds of Sils Maria by Olivier Assayas.

Attending the award ceremony was Alejandro Ramírez Magaña, president of FICM; Daniela Michel, general director of FICM, and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, vice president of FICM, who acknowledged the privilege of having the famous actress as the Guest of Honor, since Juliette Binoche’s career is known by all film lovers. Guadalupe Ferrer, director of the UNAM Film Archive was in charge of presenting the medal.

Guadalupe Ferrer on the medal awarded by UNAM:
“The university is proud to give this medal to a person who it considers to be a daring actress, an undisputed builder of characters that defy acting models and deeply move the viewers.”

Juliette Binoche on what the award means:
“Cinema is also education. I am very moved to receive this. I will keep and cherish it with my other trophies and medals. I’m very happy, because of the love I have for Latin America, since my father lived in Mexico and Colombia.”

Guadalupe Ferrer on cinema and Juliette Binoche:
“Cinema is the memory of the people, and Juliette Binoche is part of that memory.”

After these words, Juliette Binoche was applauded by the public, which was excited to have the opportunity to celebrate her contribution to world cinema.
