El podium fue conformado por el Lic. Roberto Monroy, Secretario de Turismo del Estado de Michoacán; Juan Carlos Lazo, Director General Twentieth Century Fox, México; la Sra. Sandra Monge, hija del compositor moreliano Chucho Monge; la Lic. Daniela Michel, Directora General del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia; el Arq. Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, Vicepresidente del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia y el Maestro Alejandro Ramírez Magaña, Presidente del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia. Selección Oficial La parte esencial del FICM son las secciones en competencia de Sección Michoacana, Cortometraje Mexicano, Documental Mexicano y Largometraje Mexicano. Este año se registraron más de 750 trabajos, lo que representa un aumento del 30% respecto a la convocatoria de 2013. La competencia mexicana será de 87 títulos en total: 41 cortometrajes, 24 documentales, 10 obras michoacanas y 12 largometrajes de cineastas de distintos estados de la República Mexicana como: Sinaloa, Oaxaca, Yucatán, Jalisco, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Campeche y México D.F. Por primera vez el festival presenta la Selección de Cortometraje Mexicano en Línea, la cual está compuesta por 19 cortometrajes de la Selección Oficial del 12º FICM. Estos títulos estarán disponibles en línea y gratis para todo el mundo a partir del 17 de octubre. El micrositio para votar es www.seleccionenlineaficm.com. El cortometraje más votado por el público se llevará el premio a Mejor Cortometraje Mexicano en Línea, que consiste en un diploma, una tablet patrocinada por YouTube, un premio de distribución por un año otorgado por La Ñora Distribuye y 50 mil pesos en efectivo otorgados por el canal de televisión I.SAT. En el caso de los cortometrajes de ficción, documental y animación, el ganador será considerado como elegible para la nominación al Oscar. Este año la Sección de Largometrajes Mexicanos estará conformada por: Los ausentes de Nicolás Pereda; Carmín Tropical de Rigoberto Perezcano; El comienzo del tiempo de Bernardo Arellano; Dólares de Arena de Laura Amelia Guzmán, Israel Cárdenas; Eddie Reynolds y los Ángeles de Acero de Gustavo Moheno; En la estancia de Carlos Armella; Güeros de Alonso Ruizpalacios; Hilda de Andrés Clariond Rangel; Los Muertos de Santiago Mohar Volkow; Las oscuras primaveras de Ernesto Contreras; Plan Sexenal de Santiago Cendejas y Yo soy la felicidad de este mundo de Julián Hernández. Jurado En esta decimosegunda edición, el jurado del FICM estará conformado por: Thierry Jobin, director artístico del Festival Internacional de Cine de Friburgo; Pierre-Simon Gutman, miembro del comité de selección de la Semana de la Crítica de Cannes; Carlos Cuarón, destacado realizador y guionista; Alicia Morales, directora ejecutiva del Festival de Cine de Lima; Alejandro Pelayo, director de la Cineteca Nacional; Pawel Pawlikowski, reconocido realizador polaco; Jytte Jensen, curadora del departamento de cine del Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); Christian Sida Valenzuela, director ejecutivo del Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de Vancouver y coordinador adjunto del Festival de Cine Mexicano de Durango; Alessandro Raja, director ejecutivo y programador del Festival Scope; Chi-hui Yang, miembro del comité de selección de la Quincena del Documental del MoMA y del consejo de directores del Flaherty Film Seminar; Daniel Giménez Cacho, destacado actor mexicano; Richard Peña, director emérito del Festival de Cine de Nueva York; Carlo Chatrian, director artístico del Festival de Locarno; y Fred Kelemen, reconocido director y cinematógrafo alemán. Homenajeado michoacano Dentro del marco del FICM, cada año se celebra a una figura importante del cine mexicano nacida en Michoacán. En esta decimosegunda edición, gracias al invaluable apoyo de la Filmoteca de la UNAM, el Conservatorio de las Rosas, y de Sandra Monge Hernández, se tendrá el honor de rendir tributo al célebre compositor moreliano Chucho Monge, proyectando la película Canta y no llores (1949) de Alfonso Patiño Gómez. Asimismo, gracias al apoyo de Sandra Monge, el spot del 12º FICM está musicalizado por un tema de este gran compositor: “México lindo y querido”. Película de inauguración La extraordinaria película Birdman del director mexicano Alejandro González Iñárritu se proyectará en la Ceremonia de Inauguración de la 12ª edición del festival, evento que se llevará a cabo la noche del 17 de octubre en Cinépolis Plaza Morelia. Invitados de honor En esta edición, el festival tiene el privilegio de contar como invitados de honor a Juliette Binoche, Amos Gitai, Pawel Pawlikowski y Pierre Rissient. La extraordinaria actriz Juliette Binoche asistirá al festival para presentar tres de sus películas, que incluye el estreno en México de su nuevo trabajo Nubes de Maria de Olivier Assayas. Amos Gitai, el más aclamado director israelí, presentará un ciclo de su trabajo, incluyendo el estreno en México de su película Tsili. El reconocido cineasta polaco Pawel Pawlikowski, además de formar parte del jurado este año, presentará un ciclo de sus películas incluyendo una función especial de Ida, cinta que representará a Polonia en la carrera para el Oscar. Igualmente, el FICM tiene el privilegio de contar con la presencia de Pierre Rissient, legendario promotor de cine que impulsó la carrera de Clint Eastwood, Jane Campion, Mike Leigh, John Boorman, Martin Scorsese, entre otros grandes maestros. El documental Pierre Rissient: Man of Cinema de Todd McCarthy, será proyectado como parte de las funciones especiales del festival. Asimismo, Pierre Rissient presentará las películas del programa México Imaginario. Invitados especiales En esta edición, se tendrá la presencia de: Pablo Fendrik, realizador argentino que presentará la película El Ardor, cinta protagonizada por Gael García Bernal; Kornél Mundruczó, director húngaro que presentará la multi-premiada película White God; Damián Szifrón, realizador argentino que presentará su película Relatos Salvajes; Hubert Sauper, que presentará su nuevo documental We Come as Friends; Gust Van den Berghe, realizador belga que presentará la película Lucifer; Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, que presentará el documental The Salt of The Earth, mismo que co-dirigió con Wim Wenders; y Alice Rohrwacher, que presentará su película The Wonders, cinta ganadora del Gran Premio del Jurado en el pasado Festival de Cannes. Asimismo, este año se tendrá el estreno en México de la película Short Plays, que será presentada por Daniel Gruener, Carlos Reygadas, Fernando Eimbcke y Pablo Fendrik, entre otros directores. Semana de la Crítica Entre los programas especiales de la 12ª edición, figurará estelarmente, la presentación de películas de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes 2014: Gente de bien de Franco Lolli (Colombia); Hope de Boris Lojkine (Francia); It Follows de David Robert Mitchell (Estados Unidos), quien nos acompañará en Morelia este año; Più Buio Di Mezzanote de Sebastiano Riso (Italia); Respire de Mélanie Laurent (Mantarraya); Self Made de Shira Geffen (Israel); When Animals Dream de Jonas Alexander Arnby (Dinamarca); así como The Tribe de Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy (Ucrania), cinta ganadora de la pasada edición la Semana de la Crítica. Estrenos nacionales e internacionales Este año se proyectará una muestra integrada con una selección de alrededor de 40 estrenos de lo mejor de la cinematografía nacional e internacional. El festival contará con los estrenos mexicanos de: Gloria de Christian Keller; Elvira, te daría mi vida pero la estoy usando de Manolo Caro; Me quedo contigo de Artemio Narro; y Tiempos felices de Luis Javier M. Henaine. Entre los estrenos internacionales, se presentarán: Black Coal, Thin Ice de Diao Yinan; Deux Jours, une nuit de Jean-Pierre y Luc Dardenne; Diplomatie de Volker Schlöndorff; Force Majeure de Ruben Östlund; Adieu au Langage de Jean-Luc Godard; Leviathan de Andrey Zvyagintsev; Maps to the Stars de David Cronenberg; Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet de Roger Allers; Timbuktu de Abderrahmane Sissako; Whiplash de Damien Chazelle; una función en 4DX de The Green Inferno de Eli Roth; y Winter Sleep de Nuri Bilge Ceylan, ganadora de la Palma de Oro del Festival de Cannes 2014. Secciones paralelas y Programas especiales En esta edición, dentro del ciclo de Cine Sin Fronteras, se presentará una función especial del documental Navajazo de Ricardo Silva. Por otra parte, continuando con la excelente idea del director francés Bertrand Tavernier, quien estuvo en el FICM en 2007, por séptimo año consecutivo se llevará a cabo el programa de “México Imaginario”, con énfasis en películas que muestran a México, su cultura y sus tradiciones, desde la perspectiva de directores extranjeros. En su programa de este año, México Imaginario presenta tres excelentes ejemplos de cine negro americano relacionados con el sur de la frontera: The Border Incident de Anthony Mann; The Big Steal de Don Siegel, y The Hitchhiker de Ida Lupino. En esta edición, gracias al apoyo de HSBC, se presentará el ciclo de Foro de los Pueblos Indígenas, que incluye una función especial del documental Eco de la montaña de Nicolás Echevarría. Dentro del marco del Festival se tendrá el programa especial Premio Jean Vigo, en el cual se presentará la cinta ganadora de este año Mange tes morts de Jean-Charles Hue. Este año, gracias al invaluable apoyo de la Cineteca Nacional, la Filmoteca de la UNAM y de Fundación Televisa se llevará a cabo un ciclo de cine negro mexicano, con proyecciones de: Distinto amanecer de Julio Bracho; Que Dios me perdone de Tito Davison; Cuatro contra el mundo de Alejandro Galindo; así como La otra, La diosa arrodillada, En la palma de tu mano, y La noche avanza de Roberto Gavaldón. Con el apoyo del Archivo de Cine de la UCLA, se presentarán funciones especiales de las cintas clásicas de Hollywood Supernatural de Victor Halperin y Double Door de Charles Vidor. Igualmente, en colaboración con el Instituto Goethe de México y gracias a la gentileza de Volker Schlöndorff, se contará con una función especial de Baal de este mismo director. Esta película, que no pudo ser exhibida durante más de cuatro décadas, fue presentada por primera vez este año en el Festival de Berlín. Gracias al apoyo del IMCINE, del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica y del Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, se tendrá una selección de cortometrajes que conmemoran los 20 años de las Jornadas de Cortometraje Mexicano. En esta edición, con el apoyo de la Filmoteca Española, se presentará una muestra del trabajo del realizador español J. Antonio Nieves Conde, con funciones especiales de Surcos, Los peces rojos, y El Inquilino. Igualmente, con el apoyo de The Criterion Collection, habrá una función especial de Y tu mamá también, presentada por Carlos Cuarón, y Las horas del verano de Olivier Assayas. Este año, el FICM se complace en anunciar la primera edición del programa “Una Nueva Generación de Actores y Actrices en México”, que se realizará en el marco del festival con la participación de Irene Azuela, Sofía Espinosa, Ilse Salas, Tenoch Huerta y Luis Gerardo Méndez. Sedes Las sedes de la decimosegunda edición serán los complejos Cinépolis Morelia Centro y Cinépolis Las Américas. Además habrá funciones gratuitas en la Casa Natal de Morelos, el Aula Mater del Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, la Plaza Benito Juárez y conferencias en el Teatro José Rubén Romero. Asimismo, por décimo año consecutivo, se hará una extensión del festival en Pátzcuaro, contando con funciones diarias en el “Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin”. Cinépolis Klic En esta edición del FICM, Cinépolis Klic lanza “LIVE @FICM”, donde se podrán ver -al mismo tiempo que en su exhibición durante el festival-, una selección de Documentales Mexicanos en Competencia: El Sudor de la agonía, La Danza del Hipocampo y La Hora de la Siesta. Además el público podrá disfrutar en el sitio de una selección de películas que se han presentado en ediciones anteriores del festival –entre ellas destacan: Manto Acuífero y Workers -, así como Temporada de Patos de Fernando Eimbcke, que cumple 10 años desde su estreno. Lo Mejor del FICM en la Ciudad de México El Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia proyectará a los ganadores y una selección de lo mejor del festival en la Ciudad de México del 30 de octubre al 5 de noviembre en Cinépolis; el 1 y 2 de noviembre en la Cineteca Nacional y en el CENART; del 4 al 7 de noviembre en el Cine Tonalá; del 7 al 9 de noviembre en el Centro Cultural Universitario y finalmente dos funciones al aire libre el 7 y 8 de noviembre. Official Selection The core of the Morelia International Film Festival continues to be the sections in competition: Michoacán Section, Mexican Short Film, Mexican Documentary and Mexican Feature Film. Cinépolis Klic At this edition of FICM, Cinépolis Klic launches “LIVE @FICM”, where a selection of the Mexican Documentaries in Competition – El Sudor de la agonía, La Danza del Hipocampo and La Hora de la Siesta – can be seen at the same time as their screening during the festival, In addition, the public can enjoy watching a selection of films that have been presented in previous editions of the festival on the website. These include: Manto Acuífero and Workers, as well as Temporada de Patos by Fernando Eimbcke, which premiered 10 years ago. The Best of FICM in Mexico City The Morelia International Film Festival will present the winners and a selection of the best of the festival on October 30 to November 5 at Cinépolis in Mexico City; November 1 and 2 at the Cineteca Nacional and at CENART; November 4 to 7 at Cine Tonalá; November 7 to 9 at the Centro Cultural Universitario and two open air screenings on November 7 and 8.
