Mexican presence at the Locarno Film Festival 2015

The Locarno Film Festival, one of the oldest film festivals in the world, will celebrate its 68th edition from August 5 to 15, 2015. This year, Mexico will play a leading role: the program includes two Mexican productions in competition and Daniela Michel, general director of FICM, will participate as a juror in the International Competition (Concorso internazionale). In addition, the Locarno Film Festival will pay tribute to director of photography Alex Phillips, who collaborated in several master works of Mexican cinematography.

Carlo Chatrian, artistic director at Locarno, was a juror at the past edition of FICM. It was at that time when he became more familiar with the work of Alex Phillips through the Mexican Film Noir series that was exhibited in Morelia. The program that will be presented at Locarno includes: Crepúsculo (1945) by Julio Bracho, En la palma de tu mano (1951) by Roberto Gavaldón, La mujer del puerto (1933) by Arcady Boytler and Subida al cielo (1952) by Luis Buñuel.

te-prometo-anarquia Te prometo anarquía by Julio Hernández Cordón.

In the international competition of medium length and short films at Locarno – a space for the work of young filmmakers who have not yet made their first film – Katarina Stankovic will participate with Las cuatro esquinas del círculo, a co-production between Germany, Serbia and Mexico.
