Patrice Leconte

Director, screenwriter, and actor born in Paris in 1947. In the late 1960s, he studied film at the Institut de Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris and published various critical articles in Les Cahiers du Cinéma. He worked as a cartoonist for the magazine Pilote in the ’70s. He directed his debut feature-length film in 1975, but international acclaim arrived in 1989 with the film Monsieur Hire, shown at Cannes. In the years since, he has directed around 30 films, including high-budget, internationally successful works like Ridicule and The Man on the Train; he has also made independent films such as Les Grands Ducs, distributed only in France.
