The FICM inaugurated Impulso Morelia 5 at the Morelos Casa Natal

In the context of the 17th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), the Impulso Morelia 5 was inaugurated, in a space that since 2015 offers a Mexican feature film program in different phases of editing and postproduction in order to generate a constructive dialogue on proposals and offer them international visibility. 

During the first session, the film Santa Bárbara by director Anaïs Pareto Onghena was screened and José María Riba, designer and programmer of the initiative, was present. 

The Impulso Morelia 5 selection includes three fiction titles, Santa Bárbara by Anaïs Pareto Onghena, Se escuchan aullidos by Julio Hernández Cordón and Las últimas plumas by Alejandro Alatorre, and three documentaries, No lo sé by Luis Kelly, La Vocera by Luciana Kaplan and Yermo by Everardo González.

Among the films that were presented in past editions of this initiative are Esto no es Berlín by Hari Sama, which is part of the Official Selection of the 17th FICM, La caótica vida de Nada Kadic by Marta Hernaiz, La libertad del diablo by Everardo González and Oso polar by Marcelo Tobar, winner of the Ojo to Mexican Feature Film at the 15th FICM, among others. 

As part of the international panel of experts of Impulso Morelia 5 are John Bailey (USA), Katrin Pors (Denmark), Alice Labadie (France), Jorge Michel Grau (Mexico), Jim Stark (USA), Alejandro Arenas (France) y Meinolf Zurhorst (Germany).

The prizes that will be awarded add more than one million 300 thousand pesos in kind and in cash:

  • The Cinépolis Distribución Award consists of $250,000 pesos in cash to cover post production and/or promotion processes and services. The prize will be given to one of the selected proposals by the international panel of experts invited to Impulso Morelia 5.
  • The digital portal of specialized information LatAmcinema.com offers a promotional campaign for a publicity website in one of the numbers of the magazine, with an approximate cost of USD $1,500.
  • Ambulante awards $50,000 pesos in cash, destined to complete the post production of a documentary, along with an offer to include it in a future edition of the Ambulante Documentary Tour. 
  • Estudios Churubusco Azteca gives $800,000 pesos in post production and THX sound services to one of the proposals. The support does not include materials, operator fees nor Dolby license, and it is valid for two years. 
  • A participating project will feature a week of sound mixing and one more of color correcting in the prestigious Splendor Omnia Studies in Tepoztlán, with an approximate value of $200,000 pesos. It does not include technicians fees. 

During the inauguration, José María Riba expressed his gratitude “to the teams for presenting their films even when these are not ready to be taken to the streets.” This started the program which will have its headquarters at the Casa Natal of Morelos Museum at the Morelia Historic Center.
