"Noche de cine", the music program curated by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Daniela Michel, was presented successfully

"Noche de cine", the musical film curation created jointly by the extraordinary Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu and Daniela Michel, founder and general director of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), was presented with success on Friday, October 13 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The selection was performed live by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by the Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel, and was attended by actor Demián Bichir as master of ceremonies.

As part of the CDMX festival, with which the Los Angeles Philharmonic set out to explore the colorful Mexican contemporary music scene with artists such as Natalia Lafourcade, Cafe Tacvba and even the electronic music group NAAFI, "Noche de cine" included soundtracks, songs and fragments of video with live music. The selection ranged from classic films such as Redes (1936, dirs. Fred Zinnemann, Emilio Gómez Muriel) and songs by Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante, to contemporary cult favorites such as the music Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labirynth (2006), and Y tu Mamá También (2001) by Alfonso Cuarón, going through gems from wresters cinema like Santo en el museo de cera (1963, dirs. Alfonso Corona Blake, Manuel San Fernando).

"This particular concert was a tribute to the cinema made across the border in which the aforementioned Philharmonic did not serve as a background for other popular musicians, but was placed in front of a giant screen in which images were projected from a large number of Mexican films of all time to recreate the corresponding fragments of their soundtracks, adapting them sometimes to their own format, giving the role of host to the always charming Demián Bichir, and adding Mariachi Sol of Mexico and La Marisoul, singer of the celebrated local band La Santa Cecilia, for several interpretations," critic Sergio Burstein detailed in his review for the Los Angeles newspaper Hoy.

In an interview, Daniela Michel stated that it was a great honor to have been invited by Alejandro González Iñárritu to participate in this program, and commented on the extremely enriching experience that was to collaborate with talents of the magnitude of Iñárritu and Gustavo Dudamel.

“Collaborating with Alejandro González Iñárritu is always an honor and an enormous learning experience for me. I have had the privilege of working side by side with him on some projects and it is always a source of great inspiration. It was very important to us both that Mexican music and cinema were well represented in this great concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, because we both feel very proud of our country and our culture.”
