13th FICM Spot: The Walking Eye

The work of legendary graphic designer Saul Bass was the source of inspiration for Rodrigo Toledo, designer of the image and producer of FICM’s spot, as he created the poster for the festival’s 13th edition. For example, the “walking eye” is an element taken directly from Bass’s work. It appears like a small “walking clock” in the titles of Around the World in Eighty Days (1956) by Michael Anderson.

Beyond his designs of corporate logos and posters, Bass was most known for his movie title sequences, which included films by directors such as Otto Preminger, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Billy Wilder and Martin Scorsese. Therefore, this year FICM’s spot will necessarily be a tribute to these works of art – animations that conserve a unique and vanguard style to this day.
