Mexican Directors Meeting 2014 Program

The Meeting of Mexican Directors 2014 will be held from October 19 to 23 during the 12th FICM. The following activities will take place at the Teatro Rubén Romero and will be open to the public:

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS

Sunday, October 19, 11 am to 1 pm

PRESERVING OUR FILM HERITAGE

Given the rapid technological change, representatives of national and international film archives, along with experts in formatting and film preservation processes, will discuss the importance of conserving and protecting audiovisual heritage.

Monday, October 20, 11 am – 1 pm

FILM CRITICISM IN MEXICO AND THE WORLD

Renowned specialized media critics and scholars of Mexican cinema will exchange points of view on the way our cinema is perceived in different countries, the role of the critic in this perception and how his/her work influences the interest in Mexican cinema of audiences around the world.

MEXICAN CINEMA IN FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD

The national cinema is present in the most important festivals around the world, receiving increasing international recognition. Programmers and festival representatives invited to FICM will discuss how our cinema crosses borders and encounters diverse audiences.

MEXICAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL - 20 YEARS LATER

In 1994, the Mexican Short Film Festival, a project that brought together a generation of filmmakers whose talent, two decades later, has been amply demonstrated. A session of reflection and analysis with Mexican filmmakers on the development of our cinema in past years.

NEW TALENTS AND PROPOSALS IN MEXICAN CINEMA

An open space for conversation with young filmmakers who have participated in FICM, who will discuss their films, new projects they are working on and their vision of the current Mexican cinema.

A conversation with well-known Israeli director Amos Gitai who, in addition to presenting his latest film Tsili (premiered at the past Venice Biennale) at the 12th FICM, will be present to accompany a selection of his work. Moderated by noted film critic Nick Roddick

Thursday, October 23, 4:15 pm

A conversation with the talented and controversial Austrian director Hubert Sauper, who will present at the 12th FICM his latest documentary, We come as friends, in which he faces, in a raw and direct manner, the social and political complexities of the Sudan. Moderated by noted film critic Nick Roddick
