Pedro González-Rubio Receives Hubert Bals Fund 2015

Antigone, the new project by Pedro González-Rubio, has been selected to receive the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival (IFFR). Founded in 1989, the Hubert Bals Fund provides financial support to promote the making of films from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and some parts of Eastern Europe. Since its beginning, it has given grants for more than 1,000 projects by independent filmmakers who have presented their works at the Rotterdam Film Festival and in other festivals around the world.

In the fall of 2015, the Hubert Bals Fund will give a total of 175,000 euros to eight film projects for script and project development, and six for post-production, selected among 324 registered works. Below are the projects selected for the grant:

Screenwriting and project development

Pedro González-Rubio has presented three of his films at FICM: Toro negro (2005) won the award for Best Feature Length Documentary at the 3rd FICM; his debut film Alamar (2009) won the award for Best Mexican Feature and the Audience Award at the 7th FICM and the Tiger Award for Best Picture at the 39th IFFR, among others; and his documentary Inori (2012) received the Best Documentary Award at the 10th FICM and the Golden Leopard at the 65th Locarno International Film Festival.
