Michel Franco's film Las hijas de Abril will compete in Un Certain Regard

Michel Franco's film Las hijas de Abril will compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 70th anniversary edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from the 17th - 28th May, 2017.

Franco has a long history with the Cannes Festival. In 2009 his first feature film Daniel y Ana was screened as part of the Director´s Fortnight. In 2012, Después de Lucía won the prize for Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section and in 2015 Chronic was selected for the Official Competition, ultimately winning the prize for Best Screenplay.

Franco´s history with FICM is equally notable. His short film Entre dos (2003) competed in the festival´s very first edition. Daniel y Ana was screened at the 7th edition of FICM, while in 2012 Franco was awarded the Premio Traditional at the 10th FICM. A year later, at the festival´s 11th edition, his feature film A los ojos, co-directed with his sister Victoria Franco, was in the Official Selection. At the 13th FICM in 2015 he screened Chronic as a Gala Function, accompanied by the film´s protagonist Tim Roth.

This year in Cannes Franco will compete alongside filmmakers like Laurent Cantet (Guest of Honor at FICM in 2015), who won the Palme d´Ór in 2008 for Entre les murs.

FICM is delighted that this extraordinary Mexican filmmaker continues to gain such important international recognition.
