The Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, 2015

The Cannes Film Festival announced the films that will form part of the 68th festival’s Official Competition. We are delighted to share that Mexican directors Michel Franco and David Pablos, both of who have shown their work at FICM on several occasions, are in competition at Cannes 2015. Congratulations to both of them!

The Official Selection:

The Cannes Official Selection 2015 includes, as in previous years, some of the most important names in the world of contemporary cinema, including Todd Haynes (Special Guest at FICM in 2008), Jua Zhangke, Gus Van Sant (Special Guest at FICM in 2004), and Pablo Sorrentino, among many others. Now, the name of Michel Franco is included in this list:

Un Certain Regard

In previous years this section has highlighted Mexican cinema. In 2012, Michel Franco received the Prix Un Certain Regard for his film Después de Lucía, and in 2013 Diego Quemada-Diez’ La jaula de oro / The Golden Dream, won the Un Certain Talent award, in recognition of the exceptional work of film’s cast. Not it is the turn of David Pablos, director of Las Elegidas / The Chosen Ones:

Out of Competition

Traditionally, the Cannes Film Festival screens some of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, out of competition. This year, Barbet Schroeder (Special Guest at FICM in 2009) will premier his most recent film Amnesia. Other eagerly awaited titles are Irrational Man, by Woody Allen; A Tale of Love and Darkness, the first film directed by actress Natalie Portman; and Amy, by Asif Kapadia (Senna, 2010), a documentary about celebrated British singer Amy Winehouse.
