In an interview, the directors expressed their excitement at having the opportunity to present their work in this space and to gain such important international exposure. They also thanked the Morelia International Film Festival for its support.

- Esteban Arrangoiz: “I am happy and grateful to the Morelia Festival for having this alliance with such an important section of the Cannes Film Festival, and for giving us the chance to show our work here. It was a very nice screening; the selection of short films was diverse, and we left the audience with a sense of the kind of work that is being made in Mexico by a new generation of filmmakers. I’m really happy to have had this experience in Cannes.

- Nuria Menchaca: My experience at the Critics’ Week screening was incredible. I never thought my short would get here. I want to thank the Morelia Film Festival so much for this opportunity.

- Tess Anastasia Fernández: To have this opportunity to present my short film at the Critics’ Week, thanks to the Morelia Film Festival, is one of the best things that has happened to me. It is an extremely important festival, and one of the most significant platforms for films. I am very happy to be here.

- Laura Baumeister: We are very happy with how the screening went, and with the discussion that was generated after the short was shown. We think it was a lovely program; we really enjoyed seeing the four films together. This opportunity, which was given to us by the Morelia Film Festival, has been a great way for us to discover Cannes, a festival that we have always aspired to. I am very happy and grateful.

The screening was presented by Charles Tesson, Artistic Director of the Critics’ Week, and Daniela Michel, Director of FICM.

Daniela Michel said: It is a great honor for us to be here. We are very grateful to have the great privilege to show some of the works that have participated in Morelia. It is particularly important for us to be present in this space, which has discovered so many wonderful filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu. It is an extraordinary experience to come every year and see the great selection of films from all around the world, made by talented young filmmakers.

Charles Tesson, who has attended the Morelia International Film Festival six times and, in 2010, was a member of the Mexican short film jury, said: “We really appreciate the work that the Morelia Film Festival does, especially because we share the same principles and spirit. I admire the work that they do at the festival and we enjoy a nice brotherly relationship between our two festivals. I won’t miss a single edition of Morelia.”

To commemorate the strong partnership between FICM and the Critics’ Week, the festivals will present “La última noche”, a party and celebration that has become an important meeting point for guests, actors, filmmakers, and members of the international film community.

The Morelia Film Festival’s presence in Cannes continues to grow and to increase the visibility of quality Mexican cinema on an international level.
