The British Council Mexico and IMCINE support documentary cinema

As part of the Dual Year of the United Kingdom and Mexico 2015(#UKMX2015), CONACULTA – through IMCINE – in collaboration with the British Council Mexico, will support documentary film through a program of exchange.

This project, which seeks to bring young Mexican filmmakers to the UK, and young British filmmakers to Mexico, is supported by Ambulante Documentary Festival, The Mexico City International Documentary Festival (DocsDF), and the Sheffield International Documentary Festival (DocFest) in the UK.

Edgardo Bermejo, director of Arts at the British Countil, explained in an interview for IMCINE, that under Ambulante’s guidance young filmmakers will be selected to present a project that addresses issues of social order. The selected filmmakers will then develop their projects at the UK’s most important documentary festival, Sheffield DocFest, which takes place in June of this year.

Further down the line, young Britons will visit Mexico to work on a film project that will be presented as part of DocsDF this Autumn.

Bermejo said that this project not only has to do with the presentation of films, but also with a long-term collaboration that will allow these institutions to create a kind of cinematographic legacy.

The Dual Year of the UK and Mexico 2015 will be celebrated with more than 100 cultural activities in more than 13 cities in Mexico, including a number of screenings of British films. The Cineteca Nacional will soon present a series of gothic films, which will possibly then travel the country. The 13th FICM will also join the celebrations with a strong presence of British cinema in its programming.
