Berlinale Spotlight at the Morelia International Film Festival

On the occasion of the “Year of Germany in Mexico 2016/2017”, the 14th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) in Mexico (October 21-30, 2016) is dedicating an entire programme to the Berlin International Film Festival.

The jointly curated selection comprises some ten films from the Berlinale 2016 programme, the Retrospective "Germany 1966 - Redefining Cinema" as well as a further film-historical work. In addition, there will be presentations of Berlinale initiatives such as the World Cinema Fund and Berlinale Talents.

Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick and other festival representatives will present the Berlinale Spotlight, which is supported by the Goethe-Institut.

"We gratefully thank the Morelia Film Festival and especially its director, Daniela Michel, for the invitation. The Berlinale Spotlight in Morelia will help to strengthen and deepen the dialogue with our Mexican friends. The Federal Foreign Office's ‘Year of Germany in Mexico’ is a great occasion to intensify the cultural exchange," says Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick.

FICM Director Daniela Michel's commented on the Berlinale Spotlight in Morelia as follows: "We are delighted to be working with the Berlinale, within the context of the Germany-Mexico Dual Year, to bring a selection of excellent films to screens in Morelia. Not only will this initiative provide our audiences with the chance to see new and exciting international works, but it will also strengthen the relationship between our festivals, our countries and our cinematographies. We are deeply grateful to Dieter Kosslick and the Berlinale for this important opportunity for collaboration and exchange."

The Berlinale Spotlight programme in Morelia will be published in September.
