Desde allá by Lorenzo Vigas Will Premiere in Mexico at FICM

We are pleased to announce that Desde allá/From Afar, which won the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival, will be presented for the first time in Mexico at the 13th FICM. The film was written, directed and produced by Lorenzo Vigas, and also produced by Guillermo Arriaga, Rodolfo Cova, Michel Franco, Edgar Ramírez, Gabriel Ripstein and Lorenzo Vigas.

Desde allá, a co-production between Venezuela and Mexico, tells the story of Armando, a middle-aged man who takes young men to his home offering them money. But he does not touch them; he only observes them at a distance. At the same time, he follows an older man with whom he appears to have had a traumatic relationship in the past. The violent encounter with a young street tough, Elder, awakens in Armando a strong attraction toward the young man. Lured at first by money, Elder continues seeing Armando until an unexpected intimate relationship between them develops. Armando’s torturous past continues to haunt him, and Elder ends up committing the most extreme act of love in his name.

The short film by Lorenzo Vigas Los elefantes nunca olvidan (2004) participated in the 43rd Critics’ Week, a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, and won the Special Mariposa Monarca Jury Award at the 2nd FICM. The special screening of Desde allá at the 13th FICM represents the director’s successful return to Morelia, after having received the maximum prize given by the Venice International Film Festival.

“It is an honor for me to have the Mexican premier of my film at FICM,” Lorenzo Vigas said. “I was at the 2nd edition of the festival with my short film Los elefantes nunca olvidan and now, 11 years later, having gone to the festivals of Venice, Toronto and San Sebastián, I return to present Desde allá. During those years, FICM has become a reference point throughout the continent and I’m proud to be together with Daniela Michel and Alejandro Ramírez during the Latin American presentation of the film. I thank the entire festival team for the invitation to participate in this important event.”

FICM is proud to show Desde allá in our country and include the work of this great filmmaker once again in the festival program.
