Daniela Michel To Be a Juror at the Festival del film Locarno

We are pleased to announce that FICM's general director, Daniela Michel, has been invited to participate as a juror at the 68th Festival del film Locarno that will be held from August 5 to 15, 2015.

The Festival del film Locarno is one of the oldest and most renowned film festivals worldwide. Film lovers and industry professionals have gathered in this space for more than half a century to enjoy a diverse selection of contemporary films by both emerging talent and established directors.

Daniela Michel said: “It is an honor to participate as a member of the jury at Locarno. It is a festival that I’ve never had the opportunity to attend and I am thrilled to be there, at one of the oldest festivals in Europe. The Festival del film Locarno has been very important for the promotion of Mexican cinema. For me it also has a special meaning because my uncle, Manuel Michel, won the Silver Sail at Locarno for his film El viento distante / The Distant Wind (1965).”

This year Daniela Michel will participate as an official member of the jury of the International Competition (Concorso internazionale) at the Festival del film Locarno, which includes the latest work of acclaimed directors like Andrzej Zulawski, Chantal Akerman and Ryusuke Hamaguchi and two debut films. U.S. director Jerry Schatzberg, Korean actress Moon So-ri, Israeli director Nadav Lapid and German actor Udo Kier will also be part of the jury of this section.

Daniela Michel has participated as a jury member in more than 10 international festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival on two occasions (in 2011 in the section Un Certain Regard and in 2014 in the Critics’ Week). She has also been a juror at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF), the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF), the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF), the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) and the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI), as well as for the Audiovisual Scholarships of the Rockefeller Foundation, the Fulbright García-Robles Film Fellowships and the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding.

This year the Festival del film Locarno joins the list of events of international prestige with which the general director of FICM has had the opportunity to collaborate.
