Mexican Cinema at the Locarno Film Festival 2014

The Locarno Film Festival announced the program for its 67th edition, which includes two Mexican films: Navajazo by Ricardo Silva that will be presented in competition and Los ausentes by Nicolás Pereda that will be screened outside of competition. These productions were selected among the best in recent world cinema. Congratulations!

The line-up for the Concorso Internazionale 2014 – the official competition of the Locarno Film Festival – includes the following titles:

Navajazo by Ricardo Silva will compete in the Concorso Cineasti, dedicated to first and second films. The film shows a vision of the apocalypse through portraits of people who fight to survive in a hostile environment. The complete selection of the current Concorso Cineasti is as follows:

Los ausentes by Mexican filmmaker Nicolás Pereda is among the films that will be screened outside of competition. Pereda participated as a jury member in the Locarno festival in 2013. His work is part of the Signs of Life section, comprised of films that explore new frontiers, experimenting with film narrative and language. Los ausentes tells the story of an old man who lives by himself in a house near the beach in southern Mexico. He faces legal problems in trying to prove his ownership of the land. He also begins to lose his mind and little by little his memories invade his daily life.
