Michel Franco's Chronic Will Premiere in Mexico at FICM

FICM is pleased to announce that Chronic, the film for which Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco won the award for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival 2015, will be shown for the first time in our country at a special screening at the 13th FICM.

Chronic is the first film Michel Franco has made outside of Mexico. It tells the story of David, a nurse who works with terminally ill patients, played by Tim Roth. Meticulous, efficient, and passionate about his profession, he develops relationships that go beyond the medical context, forging true closeness with his patients. But in his personal life, David is ineffectual, awkward, and reserved. It’s clear that he needs his patients as much as they need him.

Michel Franco has a long history at FICM: His short film El soldado (2001) participated in the Mexican Short Film Forums at the Cineteca Nacional (created by Daniela Michel, general director of FICM, and Enrique Ortiga); the seventh short film by Michel Franco, Entre dos (2003), competed in the first edition of FICM; the director’s first feature, Daniel y Ana (2009), was presented at a special event at the 7th FICM in 2012, Michel Franco received the Premio Tradicional at the 10th FICM; and one year later, the filmmaker competed in the Official Selection of the 11th FICM with A los ojos (2013), co-directed with his sister Victoria Franco.

It is an honor for FICM to include Chronic, the most recent work by the talented filmmaker, in the program of its 13th edition.
