Alejandro Jodorowsky, guest of honor at the 11th FICM

Today we have the privilege of announcing that the master filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky will be our guest of honor at the festival’s 2013 edition.

Alejandro Jodorowsky is a Chilean artist, naturalized as a French citizen in 1980. Among his many professions he stands out as a writer (novelist, playwright, poet and essay writer), theater director, film director, scriptwriter, actor, mime, puppeteer, soundtrack composer, sculptor, stage designer, cartoonist, illustrator, tarot instructor, psychotherapist and psycho magician.

Alejandro Jodorowsky’s work is known for being risky, restless and rebellious. His unique vision has established him as a cult filmmaker and as an obligatory reference in the history of cinema.

Mexican premiere of La danza de la realidad / The Dance Of Reality

After directing El ladrón de arcoíris / The Rainbow Thief in 1990, his last film for more than two decades, Alejandro Jodorowsky returned to cinema in 2013.

Jodorowsky will be the guest of honor at the 11th FICM, where he will be present for the Mexican premiere of La danza de la realidad (2013), based on an autobiographical book by the same name.

According to the first journalistic impressions, the film is an introspective journey into childhood, filled with beautiful symbolic images. La danza de la realidad stars his son Brontis, who played his grandfather; so making the film turned out to be a very familiar experience.

Daniela Michel, the FICM’s director, commented: “It’s an extraordinary privilege to have Alejandro Jodorowsky assist the festival, he is our guest of honor and we will celebrate him with a great tribute to his cinematographic work”.
